Chalmers Property Company is a family-owned real estate development firm staffed by industry veterans with over 30 years of hard earned experience and expertise managing, leasing, and developing commercial properties across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Mid Atlantic, and Southeastern United States.

Meet the Team

David M. Chalmers
President and Founder
David M. Chalmers
President and Founder
David M. Chalmers, President and Founder, began his career as a consultant to the U.S. State Department on embassies and facilities in the Middle East and Africa.

In 1982, a successful California development company approached him to build a presence in the rapidly growing Northern Virginia market, igniting his career in commercial property development and earning the company continued success including multiple NAIOP awards.

Between 1985 and 1991, David developed commercial properties as President of Wills-Chalmers, Inc., executing successful projects including mid-rise offices in Northern Virginia, an R&D park in Reston, and high-rise rental apartments in Tysons Corner.

In 1991, David formed Chalmers Property Company. He still owns the firm today along with his family.

Fraser J. Chalmers, Executive Vice President, sources and evaluates potential acquisitions for Chalmers Property Company, managing all the financial and administrative aspects from site selection through contract negotiation. Fraser also manages design teams, construction crews, project budgets, and general contractor selection.

Before joining the firm, Fraser gained industry experience, expertise, and exposure as a lending underwriter in commercial banking. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Gettysburg College, majoring in economics and business management and minoring in history, and his master’s degree in real estate development at Georgetown University.

Grant J. Chalmers
Executive Vice President
Grant J. Chalmers, Executive Vice President, focuses on the development and management of industrial, office, medical office, flex, and secure properties.

Before joining the firm in 2008, Grant worked in commercial real estate investment banking in Bethesda, Maryland. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance at the University of Richmond and his master’s degree in commercial real estate at Johns Hopkins University.

Shannon L. Perkins
Controller
Shannon Perkins, Controller, leads the controllership and financial reporting activities for the firm along with a dozen other corporate and partnership entities.

Before joining the firm in 2000, Shannon led the accounting department at a large real estate investment trust based in Philadelphia. As an IRS Enrolled Agent (EA), Shannon earned his bachelor’s degree at Oswego State College of New York, majoring in accounting and minoring in economics.

Vice President and General Counsel
Arthur Lafionatis, Vice President and General Counsel, is an industry veteran practicing law in the Washington, DC metropolitan area since 1980 when he graduated from the National Law Center at George Washington University. Arthur has represented Chalmers Property and the Chalmers related business interests for over thirty five years. Arthur has also served for over six years as Chairman of the Board and managing member of an established mid-sized regional firm in the metropolitan Washington area, and has represented real estate developers and businesses on properties and ventures on a national basis. He has also been involved in the structuring of various business ventures, including strategic planning and succession planning for those ventures.
